The Menopause Diet: Why Carbs Are Causing Your Meno Belly (& What To Eat Instead) – Ep96

Eating for menopause is exactly the same as eating for bodybuilding.

(Say what?)

One of the most common complaints I hear from women in menopause is that they didn’t change a thing, yet they suddenly started gaining fat at an uncontrollable pace!

And that’s exactly the problem.

What happens in our body on a cellular level once we move towards menopause and beyond is far different from what happens in our younger years. So what used to work to keep us relatively lean back then, will no longer work.

(But don’t despair. The changes you need to make are not as drastic as you may think.)

Bodybuilders are notorious for hacking their bodies to get to absurdly low levels of body fat. Although most menopausal women don’t care about getting quite that lean, the principles are actually the same!

(And don’t worry, the answer is not a zero-carb diet.)

In this episode, I’m giving you the low-down on exactly what you should be eating (and not eating) to keep your menopause fat gain at bay, and WHY.

I also share what I eat to keep myself lean year-round and the backstory behind how I became so obsessed with the human body (including why menopause is a recent hot topic in the Sculpted Vegan community).

You will really love this one!
Love Kim xo

  1. Priscilla says:

Maintaining the weight after a shred is difficult
for most women especially close to 50–it’s an ongoing struggle

    • lynn says:

I did two shreds and following gained 30 pounds, bam, so fast. I have never gained weight this fast and like this.
I am 58 so menopause isn’t new to me, can’t help but think the shred did something to lower my metabolism.

  2. Cassandra Anderson says:

I loved this so much! I have bsmt jacked and I love it but I’m sending this podcast to my vegan mother who is struggling with menopause weight gain. She has never really done weights but I’ve made her understand that she really needs to start. And the information you’ve shared is more than I’ve ever received in one place. Thank you for explaining it so well!!!

    • The Sculpted Vegan says:

I’m so pleased you found the podcast informative. Your mother will really enjoy it 😊

  3. Donna says:

In addition to the menopause issues. I am a nurse, and I work nights 7pm to 7am 3 nights a week.. and I find myself confused about when to eat in addition to what to eat and when. I find it hard to stay motivated.

  4. Denise Rimkus says:

Love these podcasts !!! I have done a couple of your programs now and have lots ed them all. I am what some class as post menopausal, although my doctor says there’s no such thing, that once menopausal always menopausal 🤷‍♀️ there seems a lot of different opinions as what it’s classed as. Very confusing 😕
My issue isn’t with weight gain more the muscle gain. I’m wanting to try to fill in the saggy skin that is now prominent. I have had my hormone levels checked including testosterone and it’s all OK. It would be great to learn how to build more muscle, if the process is a little different from the usual programs. The only advice I get from other builders at the gym is I need to take some steroids of some sort. I’m not willing to go that way. Surely there is a better solution.
You are such a ball of information maybe I’ve missed something somewhere. It’s very frustrating, I don’t want to get big but just some extra muscle. I don’t want to stay as lean as after a shred.
Maybe others out there have had similar issues.
Thank you Kim for addressing the menopause issue, finally someone who cares.
        Love you big time 💋

  6. Alisa Erickson says:

When I first started looking into menopause and trying to research why my body was changing, I was so frustrated with the lack of information out there. You have expanded on what knowledge I was able to gain by such a huge amount and it almost brings me to tears just to feel validated by the science you are passing along. I am so very excited for the menopause program launch in April and thank you so much for all hard work you put in for all of us.

    • The Sculpted Vegan says:

It is shocking how little information, and support, is out there for women. Things desperately need to change, and fast! Lots of love 💕
